While the title of this article might sound like etiquette for dining out, tipping in a canoe is a far more sobering experience. Eventually, no matter how good you are or how many years of experience you have in a canoe, something will go wrong and someone is going to go swimming. Here are a few tips to make sure swimming is done from the shore and not from your canoe.

Canoes rely upon the bottom of the hull staying flat on the surface of the water. In order to keep that stability intact, the more you remain in the center of the boat the better your chances of staying dry become. One hand on each gunwale and one foot on the centerline of the canoe at all times will keep the stability of the canoe intact. With all of the gear and equipment that finds its way into a canoe for trips and excursions, this isn
