Some Top Spring Ski Jackets

Northeast Outdoors Experience Staff

Spring conditions on the ski slopes can be fickle at times and the clothing we wear must accommodate that fact of life. While the predictability of the winter might make dressing fairly easy, trying to anticipate the fluctuating temperatures and conditions of spring can be far more difficult. Having a ski jacket designed to handle the warmer weather and then be adequate when the weather turns suddenly cooler should be a consideration of all spring skiers.

The ArcTeryx Beta SL jacket is a waterproof, lightweight jacket designed for wet changeable conditions. Its three layer Gore-Tex design denies melting snow penetration while its Pac-Lite design keeps folding into a compact size easy. It is a very durable men’s jacket intended to last many ski seasons.

The “DriClime” vest by Marmot gives the springtime skier the option to add or subtract an inner layer to stay as comfortable as possible. While technically not a jacket, wearing one of these fine vests beneath a quality jacket can turn an unpredictable day into a predictably comfortable one.

The “Alchemy Jacket” by Mountain Hardware is a durable, soft shell, breathable jacket that is the ultimate in comfort and stretch. There is plenty of room for arm movement and yet fits the body remarkably well. It is completely water and windproof and perfect for any weather the springtime can throw at you.

The R1 Patagonia Granular jacket is very well suited for cold spring days when it’s windy and can be worn as a layer beneath a heavy jacket on really cold days or by itself on warmer ones. This jacket should be a welcomed addition to the spring skiing wardrobe of anyone who is seeking versatile well-fitting jacket.

North Face offers two jackets that are excellent choices for the spring skier. The Denali is a must have 300 Polartec fleece garment that can be layered under a waterproofed outer shell or worn on its own on dry spring days. This great looking jacket has abrasion resistant nylon outer cover to buffet wind and is a handsome coat for wearing on the slopes or out on the town.

The Venture Jacket by North Face is a waterproof, breathable lightweight jacket that is perfectly suitable for wearing around town or on the slopes. It has underarm zippers to let out excess body heat and several large pockets for storage. The sealed seams keep you warm and dry no matter how wet the days and should be considered as a great choice for spring skiing.
