February 24 to 26, 2017 Eastern States Exposition, 'home of the BIG E' West Springfield, MA.                   The 34th annual Springfield Sportsmen's Show runs Feb. 24 to 26 at the Eastern States Exposition, 'Home of the Big E' West Springfield, MA. The largest 'pure' hunting and fishing show in the Northeast is filled with hundreds of exhibitor's booths, special exhibits, seminars and action domo areas.             This two-building show is filled with an outdoorsman's dream of fishing and hu

This is an issue that most sportsmen don't consider until that time when their favorite past times are threatened. However, it is an issue that does need and require vigilance on our part. The 2017 New Hampshire legislative session is in it's second week and already we are hearing proposed legislation on 'Constitution Carry' your right under the second amendment, carrying loaded long guns in vehicles, restructuring the F&G Commission to an advisory board, creating a study committee to study

I am not sure just how many of today's hunters carry their cellphone with them - but I would guess it's a pretty fair number. We all want to stay 'connected' with friends and family and these little devices seem to help with that. Whether you text messages when on stand or get so bored that you search the internet or play games, the underlying problem is it takes battery power to do that. If you are like me, my plan is to go in early and stay late (unless I get lucky) and that little phone keeps

8-15-2016 My 2 new HCO Outdoors Spartan GoCam's have arrived! It took me less than 10 minutes to call Verizon, give them the info and get connected. I put them out in the yard last evening just for kicks and wouldn't you know it - this morning I got a pic of the neighbor's cat going through about 4:15 am. I chose the HCO Spartan GoCam over a number of competitors offerings for one main reason - that is that I am not tied to the company, paying them for the service of delivering my pics. I did ch

For those of you who have taken the step forward in the past few years to use ‘wireless’ game cameras for scouting – another change is about to fall upon you. When wireless game cams were introduced back in 2010 the technology employed to send a pic as either a text message or a text to email was the same technology used by the pagers, which a very important tool and hundreds of thousands were in use throughout the country in both business and personal application. With the advent of smart phone

The New Hampshire Fish & Game Department - like many others - seeks to write various rules on hunting, fishing and trapping. A Rule has the same force and effect as law but does not get the same scrutiny proposed legislation that goes through the House and Senate and gets signed by the Governor into law does. You may ask why is it done - simple answer is that the department(s) - yes all sate departments do it - know that there is something in the proposed rule which would not pass. When you

Over this New Year’s weekend I spent some needed time on the couch watching sports and just relaxing. From my couch corner I can look out and see the world as it passes by - or at least the vehicles on my country road. For the record, I live about 18 miles outside of the city and like it that way. There is a different mentality with 'country' folks vs city folk, and what I'm about to tell you just spurs my imagination even further.  As I watched the game, my wife called my attention to a car out

Altho the November elections have passed we are now starting to see proposals which may affect our favorite pastimes. Currently most proposals are just titles and placeholders, they are working on the wording and deciding on which laws(s) will be affected. In New Hampshire one can go onto the internet and get an up to date listing of the proposals – again, no language, just a number and title. This will change as the Senator or Representative approves

Recently someone quoted me that old proverb ‘keep your friends close, but your enemies closer’ in response to electing an individual to sit on the board of directors of a New Hampshire wildlife organization. That organization’s Mission Statement reads: The mission is the preservation and protection of hunting, fishing, and trapping and the conservation of and access to fish and wildlife habitat and resources. Historically, this organization fought vehemently for the sportsmen and sportswomen, wo
